Andy Murray wins 2 matchs in a single day to advance in Queens

Andy Murray @ Queens 2013
World No. 2 Andy Murray took the court twice at the Aegon Championships on Thursday, completing his second-round match before returning to reach the quarter-finals at The Queen’s Club in London.

The top-seeded Murray first avenged his defeat at the ATP World Tour 250 grass-court event from a year ago, defeating Nicolas Mahut 6-3, 7-6(2). It was Murray’s first match in nearly a month, having missed four weeks with a back injury.

In the third round, two-time champion Murray dismissed Marinko Matosevic 6-2, 6-2. Murray converted five of his 10 break point opportunities to seal the first-time meeting in 57 minutes.

“I thought the first match it was pretty high standard of grass court tennis. [Mahut] volleyed extremely well today,” said Murray. “He made a lot of good pickups, and I just managed to come up with some good passing shots at the right time in the tie-break.

“But this afternoon, it was hard to judge. It was so windy out there. You couldn't strike the ball that clean or really go for the lines. You just had to play high percentage tennis.”

For a place in the semi-finals, Murray will face 105th-ranked Benjamin Becker, who knocked out seventh-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov 7-6(5), 7-5. Becker improved to 27-18 lifetime in tour-level matches on grass.

Marathon Man Mahut sends Murray Packing

Picture
The Marathon Man Mahut sends Murray packing in the second round, we were talking Murray as a strong challanger if not a contender for the upcoming Wimbledon but here you go yet another early loss. What is the main problem for Murray these days? Focus or lack of stamina, or the changes made to his game?

Lendl partnership started very well but didn't improve him any bit indeed for me it looks like Murray is losing confidence but I wish he does well in Wimbledon forgetting the disaster.

Del Potro sets three-year plan to conquer grass

http://www.lta.org.uk/Global/Images%20-%20News%20(square%20corners)/Events/ATP%20World%20Tour%20Finals/delpotro23.jpgThe new US Open Champion Juan Martin Del Potro has shown his determination to succeed on grass by committing to play at the AEGON Championships at the Queen’s Club in London for the next three years.

Del Potro, who stands 6’7” tall, will attempt to follow in the footsteps of John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, Lleyton Hewitt and Rafael Nadal, who have all completed the grass-court double - winning titles at The Queen’s Club and at Wimbledon in the same year.

"I am very happy that I will play at the AEGON Championships at the Queen's Club,” said Del Potro.

“I am determined to do well on grass in my career and this is the perfect opportunity for me to improve my game on the surface. The AEGON Championships is a big tournament, and many players have done well at Queen's in the past and then gone on to win at Wimbledon.  I hope that this can happen for me also."

Tournament Director Chris Kermode was delighted to have secured Del Potro’s commitment to the tournament until 2012.

He said: “This is fantastic news for the AEGON Championships and British tennis fans. Juan Martin is one of the best and most exciting young tennis players in the world. He creates a buzz just by walking out on the court and he has an explosive game to match.”
